Elvis meets the Airport staff

On March 3, 1960, at about 7.30pm, twenty-five year old Elvis flew into what was then a US Air Force base at Prestwick on a brief re-fuelling stop. En route from Germany to the USA, Sergeant Presley was on his way home after two years' military service.
It only lasted an hour but on Wednesday, March 3, Prestwick celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of the most famous stopover in Scottish history.
Sponsored by Prestwick Airport, South Ayrshire Council, West FM, Spirit AeroSystems, Zisys Events and Diva Music, the unique charity show in the terminal building - lasting sixteen hours - had everyone all shook up.

For the event, Zisys Events installed a full stage with Sound, Lighting & two large projection screens showing Elvis images and video.

Zisys Events company director Danny Anderson, who organised the event, said:

"Elvis Presley is one of the most influential musicians to have lived. Prestwick Airport played a small yet significant part in his life being the only time he ever set foot in the UK. I felt it appropriate that Ayrshire formally celebrates this anniversary and I am delighted Prestwick Airport and many others have shown a similar desire to mark this historic occasion!"
